Guided comprehensive astronomy activity in La Palma. This activity include the use of shared telescopes for the observation of night sky objects such as: visible planets and the Moon, stars, galaxies, nebuloses and star clusters  Also, they include sky orientation using constellations and detailed explanations by expert astronomy guides.
  • Site: These astronomy tours take place in one of the viewpoints suitable for amateur astronomy and are guided by qualified personnel (astrophysicists). There are 16 of such viewpoints around the island. See more below. TOURS will never take place at the Observatory Roque de Los Muchachos.
  • They are aimed at people with or without an astronomy background. For beginners, not geared towards amateur astronomers.
  • Included: Tickets include the use of amateur telescopes for night sky observation and guides. It includes a gift photo (.jpg) sent later via email.
  • Transport not included. No 4 x 4 cars needed. Please see the main summary on top of your tickets.
  • Tickets are valid only for the date and name that appears on it.
  • Language: Spanish/English, unless specified otherwise.
  • Group activity: usually 1 guide: 15 people. This is not a private activity.
  • We strongly advise customers to wear winter clothes & shoes even in summer and even if at sea level is hot. Temperatures at the viewpoints in summer can range from 10-15C and in winter from 2-8C.
  • This activity is subject to weather conditions. In case of cancellations, we will communicate with you via mobile phone as soon as possible (sms message sent to the number you have provided us with). Occasionally, this can happen last minute. See cancellation policy below.*

    Itinerary

    • Meeting point for all tours:  in our office/shop (Travesía de Los Cancajos num. 2, Local B1, Hotel Las Olas building (not at reception of the hotel), Los Cancajos, Breña Baja). See map lat=28.643616, lon=-17.759217 https://g.page/AstroLaPalma?share. We are really sorry not to be able to offer any other meeting point. The observation sites usually have no mobile coverage and are in the dark. It is not advisable to meet us directly there to avoid communication problems.
    • Duration:  approximately 4 h, taking into account driving time to the location for the activity. It can vary depending on location,
    • Meeting time: as read on top of your ticket. Please be at the meeting point at least 10 mins before. Late arrivals may miss the tour (with no refund). Unless an incidence we will leave on time.
    • Access to viewpoint. All customers will leave from meeting point in convoy. Self-drive customers please have enough petrol for the journeys to the site of observation (at least 1/3 of the deposit).
    • Viewpoints: Most viewpoints have no electricity, poor mobile signal and are out in the nature. The viewpoint chosen for the activity will depend on best weather conditions to stargaze.

    IMPORTANT NOTICE:

    Cancellations: tours may be cancelled unexpectedly due to weather conditions (this is seldom also last minute). In the event of a cancellation, we first reschedule your tour date and if it is not possible we will reimburse your tickets. We will not be held responsible if you have your mobile phone off, if you have no signal/connection or if your provider does not give you a good service in Spain. Please notice that our office is closed at the time of the tour, weekends and bank holidays. Also, you may cancel up 24hrs prior to the tour, with a issuance cost of 20%.  If you wish to cancel please email us at info@lapalmastars.com (we only accept cancellations via email). Later cancellation  by customer/groups are non-refundable. Replies to customers will be made on office hours only. Refunds will be made within legal term which is 7 days.
    * Cancellations in case of covid19. If you suspect or have confirmed that you have covid19, please cancel your activity at least 24 hours in advance in order to follow our return policy. Refurds are not accepted with notices of less than 24 hours.
    * Travel agencies. If you have booked through a travel agency, they are responsible for your refunds in case of cancellations. Please take this into account.
    * In case of changes due to weather we will communicate with you via phone (sms or whatsapp message).
    * There may be schedule changes due to covid19 restrictions. If so, we will inform you.
    * Tours will take places preferably at viewpoints. However, at times, this is not possible for which we will find an alternative dark & safe site. Our ASTRONOMY (night) TOURS DO NOT TAKE PLACE AT THE OBSERVATORY of ROQUE DE LOS MUCHACHOS at any time as it is closed to the public at night.
